About Us

The most outstanding dental care for you and your loved ones.

Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.

The relationship we have with our doctor and our dentist is one of the most intimate outside of our family and friends. The trust we place in their hands is immense, and is a critical component of how confident we feel about the advice they offer and the treatment we receive.

Trust, like the mighty oak, does not grow overnight. It is fragile. It must be nurtured. It requires honesty. Above all else, it must be earnt…

The foundations for earning the trust of patients at Acorn Dental were laid 50 years ago by Dr Bill Cooper, and continues today in the hands of Dr Manoj Parmar and his team. The compelling mix of clinical excellence, warmth, and informality ensures everyone receives the friendliest welcome, free from dental jargon or confusing information.

A valued community dental practice was the intention in 1967, and so it remains in 2017. Providing award winning dental care for the whole family, from orthodontics in childhood to specialist implants and cosmetic dentistry, your trust is in safe hands at Acorn Dental.

Very much a local, Manoj went to school, lived, and now works in the area, and simply can’t imagine being anywhere else. After qualifying in 1998 from Sheffield Dental Hospital he returned to Birmingham to complete his post-graduate year at Acorn with Bill Cooper, and he liked it so much he ‘bought the practice’!

Building upon the strong reputation created by Dr Cooper, Manoj has retained the accreditation as a training practice, which not only means he can offer guidance and support to newly qualified surgeons, but that patients also benefit from the most up-to-date and pioneering treatment options.

Manoj has a passion for restorative dentistry, in particular implant dentistry, completing his Masters in 2013. He continues to lecture on all aspects of smile design, and runs a peer-to-peer study group for other dental surgeons on the subject of implants.

  • Nisha Parmar BA (Hons), Cert. DPM

  • Practice Manager

    Contact us

Seen by the team, and many of the patients, as the heart of the practice, Nisha is very much a ‘people’s person’ and loves nothing more than discovering what it is that makes us tick, where the strengths are, and how to create a team that will uphold the values and philosophies central to creating a warm welcome for every patient.

With a Bachelors in Business Nisha is brilliantly qualified as Practice Manager. Although she recognises the need for qualifications, she is far more concerned with the attitude of each team member, explaining “we hire on attitude as skills can be taught”.

Outside of the surgery Nisha is Mother to two small children, and like all Mums of young children has the organisational skills of a battalion officer, enjoys the delights of Pixar and Walt Disney movies, is word perfect with the songs from Frozen, and is delighted by their refreshingly uncomplicated view on life. In the increasingly rare moments of free-time Nisha loves feel-good movies, inspirational autobiographies, and her fierce joy – singing in the band with husband Manoj, and brother-in-law Dipesh.

Miki studied in her native Japan where she qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 1988 before moving to the UK to study at Leeds University, again in Dental Hygiene. She regularly attends conferences which she describes as “critical in this amazing and fast changing profession”. Her time is divided between Acorn, and another two practices, one of which is in London. Central to Miki’s success and enduring popularity is her determination to build strong relationships through patience & understanding.

Described by many of our patients as gentle and kind, Miki understands that few people enjoy the experience a visit to the hygienist entails, however, after 10 years at Acorn she has a pretty good understanding of each of the patients’ likes and dislikes. She loves her ‘catch-up time with the team’ during lunch and is fascinated by the varied contents of everyone’s lunchbox!

Reading Japanese authors is a passion, in particular Buddhist teaching and aspects of self-awareness. Miki also loves to spend time sharing good times, fine food, and lots of laughter with her husband and friends.

After qualifying from University of Birmingham in 2012 Charlotte decided to stay in the city instead of returning to her native Yorkshire, this could be because once you’ve left Yorkshire they don’t let you back in, or more probably because Charlotte met her partner while at university.

Having always had a passion for science she asked her family dentist for the opportunity to do some work experience whist still at school, and the rest is history! Driven by a desire to help others, Charlotte describes the moment she knew she wanted to work in dentistry “for me, if I feel we’re being ignored, or in healthcare we’re having procedures we’re unsure of, it can be scary and leave us feeling vulnerable. I aim to always to ensure my patient understands what’s happening, they feel in control, and they’re reassured I’ll not hurt them….this is what I’d like anyway”.

Away from the world of dentistry Charlotte can be found walking or mountain biking on The Dales, avoiding anything with custard in it, or keeping her stash of Lindor truffles safe!

She gains satisfaction from putting nervous patients of all ages at ease, and building up their confidence, so that they can have their dental treatment carried out comfortably.

In her spare time, Lena looks after her two young children, enjoys going to the gym regularly, and reading a good book.
