The “Two-Minute” Game: Use a timer or a fun song to ensure your child brushes for the full two minutes, focusing on every surface of their teeth.
Supervised Brushing: Children usually need help or supervision with brushing until at least age seven to ensure they are reaching the back molars effectively.
Sugar-Smart Snacking: Limit sugary snacks and acidic juices to mealtimes only, as frequent “grazing” on sugar is the primary cause of childhood cavities.
Be “Dentist Positive”: Use encouraging language when talking about the dentist. Avoid using the dentist as a threat for not brushing, as this builds unnecessary anxiety.

Fissure sealants are a highly effective way to prevent cavities. They are a clear or tooth-coloured resin “shield” applied to the deep grooves of the back teeth where most decay starts. It is a quick, pain-free process that doesn’t involve any drilling and can protect teeth for many years.
This is a dental emergency. Handle the tooth by the “crown” (the white part), not the root. If possible, gently place it back in the socket; if not, keep it in a small container of milk and contact Acorn Dental immediately. Quick action within the first hour gives us the best chance of saving the tooth.
