Now that your dental implant treatment is complete, it’s essential to continue caring for your implants to ensure their longevity and optimal function. Just like natural teeth, dental implants require regular care and maintenance to stay healthy and perform effectively.
We strongly recommend having your dental implants checked by one of our experienced professionals every six months for the first year, with annual check-ups thereafter. These visits are vital to monitor the integration of the implant and the health of the surrounding bone.
Our hygiene team uses advanced tools, such as Airflow® technology and carbon-fibre curettes, which are designed to clean around implants without damaging the delicate seals. This prevents the “biofilm” buildup that can lead to bone loss
At your annual review, we may take high-resolution digital X-rays to ensure the bone levels around your implant remain stable and that the mechanical components are functioning perfectly

Proper oral hygiene is the most important factor in the lifelong success of your restoration. Follow these essential steps between your clinical visits:
Precision Brushing: Use a medium nylon toothbrush to clean both the implant crowns and the surrounding gum tissue. Focus specifically on the gum line where the implant meets the “tooth,” as this area is most prone to plaque buildup.
Interdental Discipline: Plaque accumulation around an implant can lead to “peri-implantitis” (inflammation of the supporting tissue). Use interdental brushes or a water flosser daily to disrupt bacteria in hard-to-reach gaps.
Avoid Abrasive Products: Stick to non-abrasive fluoride toothpastes to avoid scratching the surface of your porcelain crowns or the titanium components.
Monitor for Changes: While implants don’t “ache” like natural teeth, you should contact us immediately if you notice any bleeding, swelling, or a feeling of looseness in the restoration.
Stick to the Review Schedule: Consistency is key. Attending your scheduled reviews allows us to catch minor issues before they affect the stability of the implant.

Our clinicians will lead your aftercare, starting with a comprehensive Bite and Stability Assessment at your first follow-up. We provide you with a personalised “Aftercare Kit” and a bespoke cleaning demonstration tailored to your specific implant bridge or crown. By combining professional monitoring with your diligent home care, we ensure your dental implants continue to provide you with a secure, confident, and functional smile for years to come.
Whilst brushing will remove plaque from the outer surfaces of teeth it will not be very effective at removing the plaque that forms between the teeth. To achieve this we highly recommend using special brushes called interdental brushes. Interdental brushes have small bristled heads specially designed to clean between your teeth. They are available from our reception, from most supermarkets and high street pharmacies. They are available in different widths to suit the sizes of the gaps between your teeth, and it is likely you may need to use more than one size of brush. You should follow your dentist’s advice about using interdental brushes, including how often you should use them. The tips below may also help. use a brush appropriate for the size of the space between your teeth, as advised by your dentist insert the brush gently between your teeth – don’t try to force the brush into the space if you work to a pattern round the whole of your mouth, it will help you not to miss out any of the spaces
The area most likely to require attention is the space between the teeth or underneath your bridge. As it is not possible to pass conventional floss between the teeth, a special dental floss called Superfloss has been designed specifically for use under the bridge. One end is rigid which makes it easier to pass under the bridge, with a spongy part for the effective removal of plaque. The use of interdental brushes is also highly recommended. For full-arch bridgework or difficult to access areas the use of a water flosser can be very effective. This is a device that emits jets of water acting to flush out food debris and plaque from under your bridge.
